So I
must have done something right, after all you clicked on this section which
is all about ME!
While whether you're here by accident or on purpose I'm going to take this
chance to introduce myself. My name is Michael
W. F. Decaire and I am the author of this
web
page.
I am a 4th year Honours Bachelor of Science - Psychology student at Lakehead
University in the lovely (but
chilly)
city of Thunder Bay, Ontario,
Canada.
As you have probably guessed
my main area of focus is Forensic Psychology and Psychiatry. My
areas of interest within this field include, criminal behaviour profiling,
criminal interrogation techniques, the pscychopathology of criminals, theories
of criminal behaviour, and mock-jury research (which I am currently involved
in). Once my undergraduate degree, and thesis, is complete
I hope to continue on into one of two career paths (1) a Masters/PhD Clinical
or Clinical-Forensic Psychology program in either Canada or the United
States or (2) enter a medical school, especially one with an applied learning
format. In this case I would like to eventually pursue a specialization
in Forensic Psychiatry, with an interest in Forensic Pathology.
WORK
EXPERIENCE. Along with my experience through education, I
am very actively involved in many areas of psychology and mental health.
I am the President of Lakehead University's undergraduate psychology student
association, the Psychology
Association of Lakehead Students (PALS). I was a research
assistant in Brantford General Hospitals - Mental Health division, an Ontario
Experience-Student (Psyhiatric Nursing) on an acute care program at Lakehead
Psychiatric Hospital, and a three year volunteer at that same facility.
During high school I was enrolled in an extensive student enrichment program
which specialized in teaching problem solving, conflict resolution techniques,
and critical thinking. This training ultimately resulted in an appointment
as a peer-councelor for troubled students. Most recently I have become
a psychology tutor for Academic Assistance Access a 100% free post-secondary
online tutoring service. I also have just become an APA and APAGS
student affiliate.
MY PAGES. Along with
this web page, I am also the creator of the PALS
website, a very comprehensive guide to the club and psychology on the
net. In 1999 I will likely be developing and maintaining the web
page for the Brant Crisis Response System. A mental health crisis
program in Brantford, Ontario, that serves a county with a fairly large
population, and is now being used as a model for developing other crisis
programs across Ontario..
MY WRITTEN WORK. This
year I will be completing the thesis component of my program. To
this point I have done four psychology research-review papers:
(1) Components of the Typicality Effect
of Face Recognition:
Familiarity, Memorability, and Encoding
Processes
